3- Jenna K: The Value of Handwritten Words

As the world continues to venture more into a technology centered culture, many people are forgetting how life used to be before we could send a simple text message in a matter of seconds. Birthday cards have turned into birthday texts, and Christmas cards have become nothing more than a post on your mom’s Facebook page. These facts seem insignificant in the grand scheme of things, but it is important that we recognize the things we are leaving behind as we transition into a completely digital lifestyle. Handwritten cards are one thing I believe we should not let go of no matter how technologically advanced we get. Although someone could just as easily type out a heartfelt message and send it as a text, it feels more sincere when it comes in the form of a handwritten letter or card. For example, my older brother always goes above and beyond to give me the best gifts for every Christmas and birthday, but my favorite thing I have ever received from him was the birthday card he wrote me for my seventeenth birthday. It means so much when someone you care about takes the time to write a heartfelt card or letter expressing their love and appreciation for you. As a society, we are becoming more and more disconnected from one another due to the continuous advances in technology, but I believe that something as simple as a handwritten card will help us to maintain our real life relationships with each other.

  1. Hey Jenna! I completely agree with you. Hand written letters to someone makes it more personal. When hand writing a message it tends to get the writer emotionally involved which proves to the reader it's from the heart. It makes it more cherishable and shows that you put in effort.
