 TW - Inside Out

JOY: The Rock

The Rock, also known as Dwayne Johnson, represents joy and excitement in my head. In every movie role his characters are similar as they usually have a few common attributes. Firstly, they are driven. The characters The Rock plays always have drive for adventure and to further their escapade. Secondly, they are powerful,  not just physically but emotionally, and can overcome any obstacle given with wit and intelligence. Lastly, he has a great sense of humor.

SADNESS: Viola Davis

Viola Davis has played in a multitude of critically acclaimed films ranging from The Help(2011) and Suicide Squad(2016/2021). Emotional scenes aren’t uncommon for Viola Davis. I found that her roles all relate in that she can pack a lot of emotion in her sad scenes and lead to the audience shedding a tear as well.

FEAR: John Mulaney

John Mulaney is an American comedian with multiple specials on Netflix and has hosted, written, and acted for SNL. From this description one might believe he is the representative of humor and not fear, however they are mistaken. In John Mulaney’s comedy special on Netflix, he makes jokes about how he was an anxious child and at other points in his life. A theme in his comedy specials is wondering how things could have gone wrong or questioning people's motives. For example, when he was too afraid to tell the Best Buy employee he didn't want to sign up for a card so he didn't buy a TV he needed.

ANGER: Gordon Ramsay

Gordon Ramsay is a British chef and host of cooking shows such as Hells Kitchen, Kitchen Nightmares, Master Chef, and Next Level Chef. His way of providing criticism to amateur chefs usually result in outbursts of anger and violent cussing. However, his madness is usually a result of terrible cooking and is more funny than it is malicious.

DISGUST: Johnny Depp

Johnny Depp is a incredibly well known actor most often associated with his roles on Pirates of the Caribbean, Sleepy Hollow, and Edward Scissorhands. His ability to play a wide variety of roles and transform his appearance for a character makes him a good candidate to represent disgust. Though I have never watched a  Pirates of the Caribbean movie, I have heard it is a common trope for him to be disgusted with his crewmates. Depp’s role in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is a better illustration of disgust in his career. Depp’s character, Willy Wonka, is often disgusted and appalled by the selfishness and spoiled nature of his child guests in the factory.
