10 - Diego B: Our Future and Our Hands

The world as it is has been troubled for much of its history. History has witnessed disagreements devolve into war, massacre, and destruction. The world is naturally imperfect, and it always will be. That does not mean that we can strive to make the world a better place. For as imperfect as the world may be, there are simply too many unacceptable wrongs in this world for society to irresponsibly ignore. We have seen much fright and terror in the country of Ukraine through a people which did nothing other than be adjacent to Russia to witness this invasion. They have seen disorder and unrule which Europe has not seen in over seventy-five years. They have been subject to death, fleeing, and unrest for being simply adjacent to Russia. There will always exist negativity in our world, since individuals will always disagree with each other on some matters, but there is a fine line between an unsolvable issue and a negative which must be confronted to prevent its influence. The invasion in Ukraine has only now been referred to as a return to a Cold War, or even a third World War. What destruction and discord could we see when all major nations are at war with each other, when the world did nothing to prevent it? When the lives of at least one individual are threatened, that is when we can draw a line. When the progress of human development is threatened, that is when we can draw a line. When the future will learn nothing from it except for how cold and destructive human psychology can be, that is when we can draw a line. These issues plague modern society, and we must address them to avoid serious consequences from our irresponsibility. The only question is whether society is willing to undertake such measures to establish a better future for society. The ingredients to ensure this future lies in the hands of those who will either stand back and ignore the fact that their actions will directly affect their future, or will adhere to that fact and step up for themselves and the world.
